GeoTopo3D Overview
Development of a 3D Predictive Modeling Platform for Exploration Assessment and Efficient Management of Mineral, Petroleum and Groundwater Resources
GEOIDE project: SLM_DFM#15
May 2005 - April 2009
Geoscientists today are facing scientific challenges that have a very high societal relevance. One important issue in the coming years is the sustainable development of Canada's natural resources and economic growth in the oil and gas industry, mining industry and groundwater sector. With the advent of new digital 3D modeling techniques and tools, the construction of coherent 3D models of the subsurface geology are now possible. Such tools offer a better quality of information towards:
- identifying new mineral and petroleum resources
- planning efficient production of resources
- ensuring environmentally secure extraction of resources
- assessing regional aquifer dynamics
Although this project combines researchers from different areas of expertise and institutions, it presents an innovative partnership model for cross-cutting research in 3D modeling that will address strategic issues related to sustainable development and natural resources evaluation and management.
